Grassy Gap Creek Trail

Hawthorne to Buckeye Lake an easy to Moderate 2.0 miles

An elevation change of 891 feet.

Beginning here at the Hawthorne Trail Head, this easy hiking trail heads a little northwest dropping some 600 feet in elevation to Buckeye Lake. As you start, you will be following an old logging road used during the late 1920's, when chestnut and hemlock trees were harvested on Beech Mountain. As you continue down the trail you will cross several town roads, most of which are not used. Be careful to follow the trail signs marking your way at each of these points. Please stay on the marked trail and always respect the private property along the way. This trail is approximately two miles long. A car can be left at the bottom point so that you can drive back.
