An
elevation change of 200 feet.
A
new area to explore on Beech Mountain, Westerly Hills consists of more
than 4.5 miles of trails. Originally
roughed in for development, these roadways offer an undisturbed area with
easy grades and wooded scenery.
Try
Cross Country Skiing when snow covers this area. In Spring and Summer ride
your mountain bike, hike or enjoy the wildflowers. Fall is a great time
for colors with the many Poplars, Maples and Beeches that abound in this
area.
Use
the map to plot your course entering at the Gumtree or Canterwood access

Canterwood
Access: make
the loop which will give you a little over a mile of exercise, including
an easy climb up Ridge Rock and looping back.
Gumtree
Access: follow
Gumtree to the Westbowl Road, turn left, going south for one half a mile.
This takes you within hearing distance of a waterfall, just east of the
end of the trail. Retrace your hike back to the beginning point . . .
that’s almost a mile hike. When you return to gum tree, you can continue
North to Canterwood, approximately one mile.
